I have been thinking of you. There’s an emptiness since you left us. I do not speak merely of your physical presence--the presence of an elder whose mere gestures and silence spoke of the community that was built by hands such as yours—a community that is being taken away from us; but a presence that was as real as any tourist landmark—more real, in fact, because you spoke to us, to our core of what it means to be an elder, a black woman in San Francisco. Filipino American History--Our Legacy is Not for Sale!
I am proud to be Filipino, Filipino-American. I am proud of our legacy in America. I love the laughter and resilience of my people. I love the sound of their laughter, their thick voices of different tongues. I love my people 365 days a year. I love the Filipino youth who stand up for their community. I love our generosity. I love how gracious we are while at the same time possess the fiercest fire when defending our community. The sun rises
Standing Up For Marcus Books-The Oldest Black-Owned Bookstore in the Country
Marcus Books- the Oldest Black-Owned Bookstore in the Country Faces closure due to 21st Century Devil-opment (as we call it at POOR Magazine) & Real Estate Snakkking. London Breed proposed a legislation to keep the store and the family that launched the revolution in their proper home. The Legislation was unanimously approved to go before the board. Stay Tuned! - the Fight continues.
