Lady MJ of  Birmingham, United Kingdom

ABOUT ME

Lady MJ: I had a head injury 4.5 years ago and now I have seizures and blackouts of every shape and form most days, I am blessed with angelic souls to care for me every day and push me to live my dream. I had to go in public in a wheel chair because the severity of the seizures was impossible. I would free fall and bruise and damage whatever I fell on. This could happen up to 12 times a day, or if I only had a few I could blackout completely for 6 hours plus recovery time and sleep. So my days can be pretty limited. I am happy to say I’m getting so much better which has enabled me to try and focus on my music- even though I am restricted and depend on carers a lot, nothing will take my passion away. Its’ a big double life I lead as I look non disabled people cannot comprehend this vibrant, lively performer to be in a coma like state and every part of energy drained. I cannot change who I am, I am proud! I am happy with my progress and have had a couple of seizure free days! Es we can all wish we never had the accident but it’s made me who I am and full of billions more passion and empathy. I have lived wheelchair bound and I have also been in public and had many seizures/blackouts therefore I can never go out alone, I have to have a good friend/career but I stand here today and I will make change. The more better I get the more I want to do for my disabled people!

Krip-Hop Nation:  Is this your first festival?

Lady MJ: THIS IS MY SECOND- I PERFORMED ANOTHER EVENT WHICH SUPPORTS TALENTED DISABLED ARTISTS CALLED HEARTNSOUL. I HAD AN AMAZING DAY- IT WAS SO WELL ORGANISED AND EVERY ONE WAS UNDERSTANDING ABOUT MY HEALTH- EVEN THOUGH I DID END UP IN A&E HOSPITAL SO WE GOT STUCK IN LONDON TILL THE NEXT MORNING! IT WAS WORTH IT TO BE ABLE TO GET ON STAGE AND PRESENT MEANINGFUL LYRICS AND RAISE AWARENESS FOR DISABLED!

Krip-Hop Nation:  What do you think about MWD members finally performing together?

Lady MJ: I AM EXTATIC THAT THE MWD CREW WILL FINALLY PERFORM TOGETHER. THE HARD WORK IS PAYING OFF FOR US ALL AND I FEEL HONOURED TO COLLAB WITH SUCH TALENTED PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE! DETERMINED HEROS

Krip-Hop Nation:  As a woman with a disability what do you want to say to all women?

Lady MJ:  WOW THIS IS A TOUGH QUESTION.. GUESS I WOULD SAY HAVE THE CONFIDENCE- I WANT TO BE A ROLE MODEL FOR ALL WOMEN AND THE YOUNGER GENERATION TO HAVE SOME ONE TO ASPIRE TO, THERPAULITY RELEASING NEGATIVE AND TURING IT IN TO POSOTVE. I WANT EVERY WOMEN TO FIND HER PLACE IN THIS WORLD. WE SEEM TO FORGET THE HISTORY OF WOMEN TODAY AND TEND TO FOCUS MORE ON WHAT THE MEDIA PERCIEVE AS BEEN BEAUTIFUL AND JUST FOLLOWING PEER PRESSURE. WOMEN NEED TO SEE AND FEEL STRONG AND BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT REGARDLESS OF THE PAIN THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH- WE ARE ALL HUMAN! I ALSO PROMOTE A PROJECT CALLED “WARRIOR WOMEN” WHICH SUPPORTS ALL WOMEN ALSO THERE ARE SENSITIVE ISSUES AND CHARITYS SUPPORTED FOR ABUSED WOMEN, DISABLED WOMEN, WE ARE SURVIVORS!

AS I HAVE A HIDDEN DISABILITY PEOPLE TEND NOT TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING. I FEEL BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO RELATE TO NON-DISABLED AND DISABLED PEOPLE. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH A LOT OF DIFFICULT SITUATIONS. I FEEL IT IS MY DUTY TO SUPPORT AND SHOW THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL!

Krip-Hop Nation:  What is your biggest goal coming out of this festival?

Lady MJ: BEEN ABLE TO SPREAD BEAUTIFUL POWERFUL MESSAGES, BLESS PEOPLES LIVES, GIVE THEM HOPE AND ASPIRATION. I AM EXTREMELY PASSIONATE AND DEVOTED, MUSIC TOUCHES SOULS AND IF I CAN HELP ONE PERSON BY EXPRESSING MY LYRICS THEN THAT IS A GIFT IN IT SELF

Krip-Hop Nation:  Give us you feelings about MWD and your future work.

THE CO FOUNDERS LEROY AND BINKI HAVE BEEN ROCKS AND A TRUE INSPIRATIONS FOR ME THROUGH THIS ALL. WE ARE GROWING MORE AND MORE EVERY DAY WITH STRONGER CONNECTIONS. THE CREW IS MULTIPLYING FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD! WE HAVE SONGS/TRACKS IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. WE ARE MULTI CULTURAL, WE CAN ASPIRE TO ALL!

Krip-Hop Nation:  What songs will you sing at DADA Fest?

Lady MJ: I will mention a few tracks and the rest you can have a surprise!!!

“DARK SHADES” Is about people judging you before they have even heard your talent or know you-  I want the stigma attached to disability to change-“we heart one soul one mind, don’t’ matter if you look different from the outside”

“NOTHIN’ STOPS THE WARRIOR” encouraging people to feel stronger, positive and be able to follow their hearts desire

“NO MORE TEARS INSIDE” When I first had the accident and these “episodes” started happening. It took a long time to get me diagnosed so these are lyrics before I knew what was happening after living a non-disabled life

Stay Tune with other MWD members talk about the upcoming DADA Festival when they finally get to meet face to face and perform.  Artists from USA, UK Germany and Africa all disabled/Deaf and all Hip-Hop artists/poets..... Moore to come!!
