Emergency Press Conference For Our Housing-

Stealing Public Housing from the Public
Under the Benign Acronym of RAD, the Mayors Office of Housing and the Housing Authority Conspire to Sell Public Housing to Private Developers

What: Emergency Press Conference For Public Housing

When: 12:00 noon- Tuesday, Sept 24th

Where: San Francisco City Hall - Polk street Entrance

"My family has been living here for five generations, where is our equity,"said, Queenandi XSheba, Long-time resident of public housing in the Fillmore district of San Francisco.

The Mayors Office of Housing is rushing through a proposal to HUD called Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) which will ultimately mean the privatization off all the last shreds of public housing in San Francisco.

Shuttled in with the benign title of Rental Assistance Demonstration, the Mayors Office and Housing Authority have been holding a series of last minute, so-called “community” meetings n the public housing projects that will be bought and sold right under us, claiming they will be improving our lives and communities by displacing us.

This will have a direct impact on the poorest San Franciscans who are a majority of people of color due to racist and classist housing policies and gentrification by big business and corporate non-profit and for-profit housing developments moving into communities like Hunters Point, Western Addition and the Mission.

"They are selling public housing stocks off to private investors as mortgages, which means they can’t guarantee what private investors do with their investments, said Paul Boden from the Western Regional Advocacy Project (WRAP) who has done extensive research on the destruction of public housing for poor peoples in the US to get some truth beyond the acronyms.

Youth, adults, elders, families and disabled people in poverty will be the most directly impacted by this underhanded move. POOR Magazine members who are in the San Francisco area have already been subjected to displacement, eviction and houselessness due to previous private/public housing developments.

POOR Magazine/Prensa POBRE is a poor people-led, indigenous people-led grassroots, non-profit, arts organization dedicated to providing media access, art, education and direct advocacy to communities in poverty locally and globally
