The End of the Eviction Moratorium and The Addiction of Success

By tiny gray-garcia aka @Povertyskola

Poverty Shame is a murderous krapitalist game

Deep lies about who u is and what you got

got us all in CONfusion, deep Pain & violent debt

frontin

Killing, lying, stealing,

hurting, abusing, & perpetratin’

All to prove u r not what u is -

U r not that in-debt adult

or terrified homeless kid

I aint po’

I got dough

I got a job

I got a home

You see my shoes,

My hair

My clothes

From the island called hegemony

Rooted in endless hoarding of stolen land and blood-stained money

Taught - no shoved down our collective throats

From an early age-

Perpetrated by all the profit-making forces that need you as a wage-slave

Need your labor

Your time

Your energy, youth and collective minds

This is a sickness -

Must be lifted

and we all need to unWind

Un-power

From the skoolz

To the cages

From the scam lords

To the money changers

This poemCast from a poverty skola goes out to all my fellow poverty skolaz caught so deeply in the lies of blood-stained BuX u cant even see how and where u are FUKed UP! - who go to the seminars on “How to Flip that Ugly House” even though you live in that Ugly House who look at houseless peoples like me - and think quietly that could be me

Say Outloud we got to increase the Sweeps

Have no interest in political consciousness cuz WTF - I am waiting/working hard to strike it rich on

Wall Street

Who have become the “man” who evicted and kick-ed you because you were sold a bunch of lies about how that makes you ok

This goes out right now while we watch the INSANITY of the end of the Eviction Moratorium cause literally thousands of peoples across this stolen land bout to be houseless

Living in our Cars spending nights

Looking at stars

“Where will we go if we get evicted,” said Julio H, an elder currently living in an apartment in Oakland, unable to pay for the back rent. Julio was just one of thousands in this krapitalist struggle, and one of 15 people in our POOR Magazine family and extended family of poor and working class elders, families and disabled folks who are terrified of the violent system of eviction court and ultimately Sheriff’s knocks at their doors.

“I just got a 15 day notice to pay 9,400 in back rent or “quit” and my husband and I don’t qualify for the rental assistance,” said Momi Palapaz, poverty skola and POOR Magazine family elder.

POOR Magazine family of houseless and formerly houseless and evicted youth, elders and family stood with the thousands of renters facing the violence of eviction now that the eviction moratorium was lifted. In San Francisco as a powerful protest lby Housing Rights Committee last week lifted up with Veritas and this week with Raj properties. To respond to this violence and stand with our elders we set up a tent  ( cause if they gonna evict us - we need to move into the Sidewalk Motel and read off our list of demands in front of one of the largest CorpRape income "property owners in the East Bay Raj Properties and the Alameda county Sheriff's office  who is sending out eviction notices by the dozens to all their tenants even though there is still an eviction moratorium in Alameda County.

One of the myths that these politricksters keep throwing around is the idea that we can all apply for the rental assistance. Which is just more politrickster and burEACRAZY  violence. I have sat with poor elders and families trying to apply for that money and its mind-numbingly hard - multiple page document that even this JailhouseTenantLawyer and other advocates struggle to get through.

In the backdrop of all this eviction violence against our elders and families, My Suns peeped me to the brutal new show Squid Game, about poor, working class and even middle class peoples so deep in debt and/or trauma of krapitalism that they opted to enter a bizarre “game” that promised millions of dollars and literally murdered people in the process of this pursuit of money and supposed “happiness." There is a momentary reference in the movie to Jacque LaCan- and the theory of the Obscure object of desire, cause as we all know you can never have “enough” blood-stained dollars, Mama Earth or her resources once you have bit the poison meal of “success”, upward mobility, hoarding and accumulating. The robot-esque agents of the game accomplish a collective “buy-in” by all the terrified participants with the dropping of a transparent piggy bank filled with billions of dollars, at which point everyone is CONflicted. Because once you there krapitalism is an addiction.

Squid Game clearly illustrates that all across Mama Earth from South Korea to South San Francisco we are sold the multiple lies of accumulation, hoarding and its related happiness and deep shame associated with so-called failure, That if we just work in krapitalism, “hard enough and long enough." We will make it too! One of the really sick parts of these lies is of poor people hate and internalized classism and poverty shame that plague poor people for just being poor.

This even runs through and underscores so-called activism and resistance. Why tenants movements never link up with houseless movements. We are different, we aren’t “those” dirty homeless people. We are just decent working people. We arent lazy or dirty or stupid…or drug addicted.

This hate is rooted in our collective shame of poverty. A shame created so we will all kill ourselves to attain what a few wealth-hoarders have always had effortlessly, not because they “worked so hard” but because they were born into access and credit and privilege and credit scores and stolen land access and oftentimes, but not always skin privilege.

I have felt this shame, I have lived this sad life of wanting to be the “other” to have things I never had. To not be bullied for being the homeless kid, the latch-key kid, the momma-less kid. To be all these things I never was, was somehow connected to money in my Confused mind. Poverty. Access. Access my po’ single mixed race Broken mama never had. But really now that im an adult I realize it had very little to do with money at all, but everything to do with isolation of a single parent family who had no family. Shame on my Po’ mamaz account for “failing” at the hamster wheel model of success and then me also generationally “failing."

These broken krapitalist dreams break so many and once we are truly broken we live with this sheen of shame and the pain of who we have promised to and who we have let down and then insane situations like the end of the eviction moratoriums underscores the pain by even more - we need to move another way.

For our collective survival and thrival we need to let go of poverty shame, and work together to liberate our bodies off the lies of rent, stolen, sold and extracted Mama Earth.
